WildPackets Announces New VoIP Training and Unified Communications Assessment Service

Walnut Creek, Calif. - November 11, 2008 –;;; WildPackets® Inc., a leading provider of network and application analysis solutions, today announced a new training course from WildPackets Academy, VoIP and Video Analysis and Troubleshooting. In this course users will learn about common VoIP issues and solutions including pre-deployment assessment, performance inhibitor analysis and problem resolution.

Traditional telephone services have gained a reputation for providing excellent voice quality and superior reliability. Consequently, users take for granted that their phone systems will provide high quality with virtually no downtime. Yet many unified communications installations fail to meet these expectations primarily because organizations have not adequately evaluated their network infrastructure to determine whether it can adequately support applications that are very sensitive to latency, packet loss, jitter, and other similar performance factors.

"Organizations of all sizes are rolling out Voice and Video over IP in hopes of lowering the costs of infrastructure and operations, not considering the challenges presented to network engineers," said Tony Barbagallo, VP of Marketing for WildPackets. "Our new training curriculum and assessment service will offer IT staff new techniques and best practices to efficiently deploy Voice and Video across their networks."

The new training course is designed to provide in-depth understanding of network and protocol architecture for real-time voice and video transmission via data networks. Through a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises, students will learn practical methods for analyzing voice and video communication in IP-based networks, and will leave with the skills to make sense of emerging VoIP technologies, Quality of Service measurements and the competing standards in today’s converged network market.

Each session is a combination of lectures and labs where participants will have the opportunity to learn more about:

  • VoIP and Video Essentials, Technology, Protocols and Codecs
  • Public Switched Telephone Network and Signaling
  • Network capacity and performance
  • Measuring Quality of Service (QoS) to ensure excellent voice quality
  • Competing VoIP Standards
  • Troubleshooting

In addition, WildPackets’ Unified Communications Readiness Assessment Service will help organizations understand the current state of their network, and its ability to support a converged IP telephony (IPT) environment. The service is invaluable for evaluating whether or not your existing network infrastructure and applications are ready for a UC roll-out that properly aligns appropriately with your business and network requirements.

Performed either on site or remotely, our network professionals utilize state-of-the-art WildPackets technology that delivers valuable insight into the health and readiness of your converged network and includes pre-deployment simulation, testing, SLA monitoring, and troubleshooting. When complete you will know the "unified communications capacity" of your network.
